BTEC
The BTEC in Aviation Studies is a nationally recognised award and is equivalent to 1 GCSE in science grade A to C.
• What's it worth?
The award is recognised by the Royal Air Force as the equivalent to 1 GCSE in Science, grade A to C. The certificate is provided by Edexcel.
• How much will it cost?
It's Free!
• What work is involved?
Cadets are elligible for the award on completion of Staff Part 1 examinations. This assumes that cadets have already completed three examinations at Leading level and two at Senior. No other work is required.
• Claiming the Award
As soon as a cadet passes Staff Part 1, staff should send the cadet's Form 3521A and payment in the form of a cheque, to ECSM Wing Headquarters.
• Comparison
Aviation Studies is an award and not a First Diploma - so it's worth the equivalent of 1 GCSE instead of 4.
The First Diplomas are free to all cadets, but the Aviation Studies costs £29.
The First Diplomas do require extra effort from cadets (including a weekend course) where as the award gives further recognition for just work cadets complete as part of their normal training programme.
