Cadet Membership

Cadet membership is open to young people, both male and female, between 13 and 18 years old who accept the challenge. The maximum age for new members to join is 16 years and 9 months.

The ACO is a 'military' youth organisation and accordingly there are high standards to maintain. You will be expected to take a pride in your uniform and appearance, be well mannered and SELF disciplined - you will be joining something to be proud of.

At 70 Squadron, we run an intake program where Junior Cadets will start together and complete an initial training program together.  The aim of this is to encourage team work and to develop new skills together.

The ‘basic’ training includes learning about the history of flight and the RAF, map reading and camp craft.  As a military youth organisation, discipline is at the heart of what we do.  This is encouraged through teaching the Cadets ‘drill’ or marching as some would call it!

Once the basic disciplines have been mastered, the training goes onto weapon training and fieldcraft, ensuring that a well turned out and competently trained cadet passes into the main Squadron.

You will also be expected to take part in as many of the activities as possible, these include sporting activities and parades - most Cadets don't need much persuading to do this!!!

"The more you put into the Air Cadets, the more you get back out - there is always something extra to do or go for."

If you want to be part of this, click on the ‘Contact us’ link or give us a call on a parade night (Mon: 1900-2130 or Tue: 1900-2130)
