What we do

Whether you’re soaring through the skies, camping under the stars, or leading your team through a challenge, the RAF Air Cadets offers unforgettable experiences that push you to grow, lead, and thrive. From high-adrenaline activities and military skills to real flight time and nationally recognised qualifications—these are just some of the incredible opportunities that await you as an Air Cadet. Where you take them is up to you.

Take to the Skies with the RAF Air Cadets
Experience the thrill of aviation like nowhere else.

As a cadet, you’ll have the opportunity to learn to fly in light aircraft, take control of gliders, and even gain first-hand flying experience in RAF aircraft. Whether it’s soaring through the clouds on a solo flight or feeling the power of a military aircraft, you’ll build confidence, skills, and unforgettable memories.

Master the Art of Operating in the Field
Fieldcraft training equips cadets with the essential skills to operate effectively, safely, and confidently in challenging outdoor environments.

From tactical movement and camouflage techniques to field living and survival skills, you’ll learn to adapt, think on your feet, and work as part of a team. Whether it’s patrolling through woodland or setting up a harbour area, Fieldcraft builds resilience, self-discipline, and leadership in real-world conditions.

Sharpen Your Aim with Live Firing
From first-timers to experienced shooters, cadets at every stage of their journey can take part in Live Firing Marksmanship Training.

Under expert supervision, you’ll learn how to handle rifles safely and accurately, building confidence, discipline, and precision along the way. Progress through qualification levels, compete in marksmanship competitions, and earn recognised badges that reflect your skill and commitment.

Adventure Awaits – Try Something New
As a cadet, you’ll have access to an incredible range of activities beyond the parade square.

From paddleboarding, kayaking, and sailing to skiing, climbing, and mountain biking, there’s something for everyone, whether you’re chasing adrenaline or just keen to try something different. No experience? No problem. You’ll be supported every step of the way while building new skills, friendships, and memories that last a lifetime.

Compete, Achieve, Represent
Cadets have the opportunity to take part in a wide variety of sports at squadron, Wing, Region, and Corps level.

Whether it’s football, athletics, netball, or swimming, there’s a place for every ability, be it for fun, fitness, or competition. Stand out and you could be selected to represent your Wing, Region, or even the national team, earning recognition, awards, and developing leadership, teamwork, and resilience along the way.

Learn to Save Lives
Every cadet is trained in essential first aid and emergency lifesaving skills, giving you the confidence to stay calm and act quickly when it matters most.

From treating minor injuries to performing CPR, you’ll gain knowledge that’s not only potentially life-saving, but also widely recognised outside the cadet world. It’s a vital skillset that builds responsibility, awareness, and could make all the difference in an emergency.

Make Some Noise – Join the Squadron Band
Discover the power of music and teamwork by joining our Squadron Marching Band.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or already play an instrument, you’ll have the chance to learn and perform on snare drum, tenor drum, trumpet, and more. Take part in parades, public events, and competitions, representing your Squadron with pride and rhythm.

Step Up and Take Command
In the RAF Air Cadets, leadership isn’t just taught, it’s lived.

From leading a team on the ground to making decisions under pressure, you’ll be given real responsibility and the chance to grow your communication, planning, and decision-making skills. Through structured leadership training, command tasks, and hands-on experience, you’ll learn to inspire others, take initiative, and lead with confidence and purpose, skills that will stay with you for life, both in and out of uniform.
